Things I Loved as a Child that are Actually Really Creepy

So, I was prodding around the Internet the other day for gift inspiration for Baby I. I needed to see what the other 10 month olds are into these days, ya know. Eventually, I thought to myself, “wow, most of these toys/shows/books are pretty creepy.”

But then I reasoned with myself. In the book of Ecclesiastes, it says that there is nothing new under the sun. And I guess that’s true because as a child of the 90s, there are plenty of things that I watched/played with that must have creeped my parents the eff out. And for your enjoyment, here are some of them in list form.

1. Chuck E. Cheese

2. The movie Labrynth

I mean, I love me some Bowie, but what were they thinking?!

3. Lisa Frank

What are those terrible birds doing to that sweet bear? And why are their eyes all dead?!

4. The Big Comfy Couch

WTF was that?!

5. Teddy Ruxpin

If I saw one of these in my house I would kill it with fire.

5. Puppy Surprise

Yay, a doggie!! Now, I’ll reach into its womb, pull out all the puppies, stuff them back inside, and do it again!

6. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

The end.

I think I stole the “10-minute tidy” from the big comfy couch–didn’t that show also have something about dust bunnies? Funny blog. 🙂

  2. i actually had lisa frank ….. EVERYTHING. folders, pens, binders, notebooks, what ever they made. I dont think it’s creepy but the quality has decreased greatly. this is funny though, those pictures lol

  3. hehe As the mother of a child of this era, I can say YES to several things here. Labrynth was and still is so inexplicably mesmerising, yet completely disturbing. Cute article. May I suggest Disney Sing Along videos and Charlie Brown?
